What does it mean when "there are problems with the partition map"?

I have a 2014 MBP that unexpectedly shut down-I guess technically it didn't fully shut down but the screen had nothing on it but it wasn't black. I held down the power button to shut it down all the way. Just prior to that it froze-I couldn't quit anything that was open and the key combination to bring up the Force Quit menu wouldn't launch. Upon restarting I booted into Safe Mode and ran Disk Utility. See screenshot for the message.

This sounds scary. I am wondering if doing a clone is a good idea-I don't want to put something bad on the clone but I should do a backup. I did a clone last night. It ran successfully.

Please advise me what my next step should be... Thanks, Judy
