  • Dave talked about finally getting CarPlay in his Subaru in this episode, and then said that he’d found a solution to the slow startup he was seeing with CarPlay — he turned off BlueTooth syncing of his contacts.Dude, you don’t need to use the old BlueTooth phone connection when you’ve got CarPlay — BlueTooth is for people with old phones that don’t support CarPlay, Android Auto, or are using iPods or other media players to stream their tunes. CarPlay has your iPhone’s Phone app built into it, so you don’t need to load your Contacts list into your car — they’re already in CarPlay. All your communications to your Subaru’s head unit should be over USB — I think the Outback has 2 USB ports in the front dash that you can use for CarPlay, and which will charge your phone at 5 watts. My car (Ford Fusion Energi) even disables BlueTooth when we plug in our iOS devices that have CarPlay activated on them.Cheers & HTH,Aaron

  • There was mention of iphone’s infrared during the Robovac discussion. iphone X’s front camera uses infrared for face ID in low and no light situations.  Try it.  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208108
