Can Nest Cameras be used outside of Nest app? Synology perhaps?

I was given a Nest IQ camera recently and I dI not know what to do with it too much. It is an interior camera. Any suggestion is welcome.

that said, I’d like to know if it can be used without the Nest app, I would prefer not having any Nest servers hacked and my privacy exposed on an open server eventually.

I looked at Synology Surveillance Station, with no surprise it is not supported. Is there a way to root the camera firmware to be more open?

thank you

I've looked into this and, I believe, so has @johnfbraun — to my knowledge these cameras (like Ring cameras) first sync with their respective clouds, and then use that cloud to initiate the stream to your device. Because of that, there's no way to talk directly to the camera from, say, Surveillance Station, unfortunately.

Basically it is crap! Lol

i can’t believe they successfully sell them at that price with so little customization possible...

thank you Dave
