interesting little problem. A friend has a Ricoh scanner which is connected to his network and sends scanned documents to his Mac over SMB. Mac is running High Sierra. The scans arrive ok but cannot be opened due to permissions. Using Info I see that they have a user o Nobody. They can be changed manually so they can be opened but I wonder if there is a way to set things so that he doesn’t need to manually change permissions for every scan.
Thanks in advance
It sounds like the scanner is connecting with the wrong SMB user credentials. Somewhere in the connection profile it should have a username & password stored for connecting to the Mac.
If the scanner is deliberately connecting with a different user then you may need to set a “child inherit”(?) attribute on the scans folder for the scanned file to pick up the permissions of the folder.
