Spacebar issues on iPad

Why is my iPad double spacing, every time I touch the spacebar on the IOS keyboard, all of a sudden? It’s quite annoying. Is there a way to stop it. I’ve always had the double space after a period disabled, so it is not that. It only happens when using the screen keyboard, not the bluetooth one.

Sounds like a systemic issue most easily resolved by a soft reset.
