Hey folks - I've got a weird digital clock that's appeared on my Mac.  Black rectangle with white numbers showing time as well as AM/PM below time. Top right corner it's got an X to close and a double arrow to toggle full screen.  I CAN use the X to close, but it returns within a minute or two.  Closing everything in ForceQuit doesn't remove.  Nothing obvious in startup items, reboot does not get rid of it... any thoughts?

I haven't seen such a clock, but I'll bet you can figure out what the app is by looking at Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities). This lists all processes that are running (and the vast majority do not show up in the Finders "force quit" dialog).

If you find an appropriate listing in Activity monitor, click on the "i" button in the top left of the window, and select the "open files and ports" tab. This should show you the location of the app that created that process. Clicking the "X" button in the original A-M window will force quit the process.
