Dramatically! reduce PDF sizes
So you are reading this because you are looking for a method to reduce your PDFs, either because you email them, link them to your website for visitor downloads or for some other reason.
This is a truly remarkable tool, visit https://github.com/ZedCheung/PDF-nano
There is a DMG link, I don't know if this is all you need but as a brew user myself ( http://brew.sh if you want to install it) I don't know if the DMG is all you need.
If you install the DMG, right click your target PDF, click Services but don't see the PDF-Nano from the menu than you may need to install Ghostscript. If you use brew you can install Ghostscript which PDF-nano depends on. In your terminal, with brew already installed just enter
brew install ghostscript
then try to nano your PDF from the services menu again.
If you don't install the DMG use the brew command above and then click the green button labeled Clone or Download ( https://github.com/ZedCheung/PDF-nano) to your desktop, unzip it and double click the PDF Nano.workflow file to install the automator script to your Services menu (PDF-nano is an automator script actually).
If you want to get creative you can assign a keyboard shortcut to PDF-nano so that you can just highlight a PDF and run a keyboard shortcut to run the conversion.
The compression is impressive. I had a 24MB PDF that got reduced down to 3.2MB with no apparent loss to quality. There are some PDF compression tools online but they convert your PDF to an image first, compress using JPEG compression and then spit a PDF back out but all selectable text is gone. With PDF-nano you can still select text or click on any URLs embedded in your PDF.
If you have any questions just ask and I will help out.
