Years in the making, today Cyan released Obduction which, as they term it, is the “spiritual successor” to their immensely popular game, Myst. Like its predecessor, Oduction is built to take you on an immersive and non-linear story through worlds of wonder and mystery. From first looks, it seems fantastic. Many of us have been waiting a long time for this and now it’s here for us to play. Kickstarter backers get the Mac version today, and Cyan indicates that a general release of the Mac version is “coming soon.” Related: I’ll be busy for the rest of the day. You might be, too.

    A conversation this afternoon

Me: oh my god did you hear? The group that made Myst has a new game out.
    Wife: Oh?
Me: It’s called Obduction and the graphics are great and it looks so cool. I am going to have to get it.
    Wife: How much is it?
    Me: I think like $40 or $50
Wife: Well just go ahead and get it already. Thats not a problem.
Me: Oh thank you, thank you thank you. DidImentionthatIneedanewcomoutertorunit? Thank you thank you..
    Wife: …
Wife: I’m pretty sure it’ll run on my computer. Then we can get me a new one.
    Me: damn.

    Woo Hoo!
Another reason I can tell my wife why I NEED a new Mac this fall.
(I think my 2012 non retina MBP would work but it would be at the ragged bottom edge of the requirements.)
