Three Star Trek Technologies That May Soon Be Within Reach

Rich Smith, at The Motley Fool, is enthusiastic about a new book by Dr. Ethan Siegel, a Lewis & Clark College astrophysics professor, called Treknology. In that book, Dr SIegel describes some Star Trek technologies that we could see in our lifetime. Namely, transparent aluminum (oxynitride), deflector shields and tractor beams. The book is cool and author Smith’s essay about it is also cool.

  • Many thanks for that link, John. This was a fun read.

    Given how much I travel, the one piece of Trek Tech that I would most value is the one that Rich Smith and Dr Ethan Siegel seem to rate as least likely anytime soon; the transporter. If, like Ben Sisko when at Starfleet Academy, I could just beam site to site for, say for my next meeting or project, I’d take it over any alternative in a nanosecond. Assuming, of course, that my project funding would cover it.
