How To Block Spam Texts On Your iPhone

Have you noticed you are beginning to receive spam text messages on your iPhone? Nothing can be more annoying than receiving spam phone calls, but now text messages as well. Don’t worry though, iOS has you covered. Using a hidden new feature on your iPhone, stop these spam messages and monitor your iPhone safely.

Where To Start

There is a feature in the settings of your iPhone that will help block these spam messages. Here is how to utilize it:

  • Go to the Settings on your phone.
  • Scroll down until you see the Messages tab and tap on it.
  • Go to the section “messages from unknown senders.” This is Apple’s tool to help filter messages you receive.
  • To confirm this feature is on, the dot to the right of “messages from unknown senders” will appear green.

Important Things You Need To Know

With the above mentioned feature now enabled on the device, there are a few things you need to know. To view the new filter you have enabled, go to the Messages app and tap on “Unknown Sender.” Make sure you save legitimate phone numbers to your contact list. Any new numbers that may text you might end up in a different tab in your Messages phone app. Sometimes delivery notifications or other delivery services messages can end up in your new messages tab, so it is important to check this frequently. You will be unable to open any links received unless their number is added to your contact list.

Report Spam Or Junk Messages

With anyone who is not in your contacts, you can report these messages as possible junk or spam. All you need to do is under the message tap Delete and Report Junk. The sender’s information will then be sent to Apple and deleted from your device. This will not block future messages from the person. If you would like to never receive any other messages from this sender, you will need to block them.

Block The Number

The best way to eliminate spam messages or calls is to block the contact. To accomplish this, tap on the info tab on the sender at the top of your screen. After doing this, it will direct you to a new screen with the sender’s information. At the bottom, tap “Block this caller.” Now the number will no longer be able to call or send text messages to your phone. To view the blocked numbers on your device, go to “Settings” then “Messages.” You will now see a tab labeled “Blocked Contacts.” Here is where all the blocked contacts on your device are stored.
