Beto O’Rourke and the Cult of the Dead Cow

Beto O’Rourke is a Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential race. In a recent interview he revealed he was part of the Cult of the Dead Cow, the oldest hacking group in the U.S.

The hugely influential Cult of the Dead Cow, jokingly named after an abandoned Texas slaughterhouse, is notorious for releasing tools that allowed ordinary people to hack computers running Microsoft’s Windows. It’s also known for inventing the word “hacktivism” to describe human-rights-driven security work.

  • “Arguably, there has been no better time to be an American politician rebelling against business as usual. Still, it’s unclear whether the United States is ready for a presidential contender who, as a teenager, stole long-distance phone service for his dial-up modem, wrote a murder fantasy in which the narrator drives over children on the street, and mused about a society without money.”

Well hopefully he has grownup, but I bet that opposition research is looking into him and will bring out anything that is recently seamy. If other than when he was kid, he is pretty clean then he has a chance to be the nominee. At this point in time I am supporting a different candidate though that could change before the Convention.

    1. So many geeks stole phone service for their modems, it’s hardly a blip on the radar. He wrote a murder fantasy? So he has an imagination. I hope people can separate the acts of characters in a work of fiction from the actual author of the story. Otherwise, anybody who has written about acts of violence would be considered dangerous. Stephen King, public enemy #1? As for musing, lots of people have mused about a lot of concepts that the know are not realistic.
