Lockdown is a New Open Source iOS Firewall

Lockdown is a new, open source firewall for iOS that lets you block apps from cryptomining, sharing data with Facebook or Google, and more.

The app operates solely on device and the code has been shared on GitHub today. Lockdown’s release comes at a time when concerns are growing about how iOS apps share data with third-parties.

It’s a cool concept and I downloaded it. Unfortunately, you can’t use it in conjunction with real VPNs, at least for now.

  • “The user IP and DNS are not changing at all. Its just an app which block access to manually inputted sites.”

Which is exactly how a firewall works. In this case it’s a fake VPN pointing to 127.0.0.1 to bypass iOS limitations.

I do use Lulu on my Mac and think it’s a great tool.

  • This “Firewall” is a joke. The app masquerades an VPN, by invoking the VPN sign on screen. The user IP and DNS are not changing at all. Its just an app which block access to manually inputted sites. Ha, and blocking Funbook is just in “beta”, sic!

Dear creators, have a look on LuLu by Objective-See to have an idea of an twisted firewall.
