Beware of Rich People Who Want to Change the World

Beware of rich people wanting to change the world. Changing the world is something we hear quite often in Silicon Valley, but it usually rings hollow.

At first, you think: Rich people making a difference — so generous! Until you consider that America might not be in the fix it’s in had we not fallen for the kind of change these winners have been selling: fake change.

Of course, world-changing initiatives funded by the winners of market capitalism do heal the sick, enrich the poor and save lives. But even as they give back, American elites generally seek to maintain the system that causes many of the problems they try to fix — and their helpfulness is part of how they pull it off. Thus their do-gooding is an accomplice to greater, if more invisible, harm.

A good example of this is Elon Musk. If he can’t turn it into a publicity stunt, it doesn’t matter to him. Whatever happened to his “fixing” of the Flint water crisis?

  • Right. Because unless rich people give away all their money and enslave themselves to do what this idiot and all commie idiots want, they are evil. And of course rich are not allowed to have their own opinions of how things should be, and if they do, they are evil. No matter that many of these now rich people that did change the world, like Steve jobs, started out dirt poor. So when they started poor and wanted something better to change the world, it was good because they were poor, but when they’re rich it’s all bad.

Once you’re rich and not under command of commie idiots whose major accomplishment in life is to put up a blog post followed up with a snarky tweet, then you’re evil. If Elon musk wants something good to happen or wants to help, but doesn’t get to it or you a pony, he’s a bad person because he can’t personally wipe your ass and everyone’s ass he’d like to help.

    Ridiculous commie pile of crap.

  • Just a load of socialist tripe and sour grapes. There’s a reason the United States is the most prosperous country in the world—the opportunity to improve your lot in life. I’m not a fan of Elon Musk or Tesla (Electric cars are not the answer for most transport applications.), but more power to him as long as he’s not getting taxpayer money in the form of white collar welfare. I’m ok with SpaceX as long as they deliver a product—they’ve done a pretty good job of it so far. The U.S. certainly isn’t perfect, but it’s still the best place to live in the world.

  • Say what you want about Elon Musk, but he is the only person who has come up with a viable plan for weaning the human race off of petroleum.

His vision of rooftop solar combined with in-home storage and electric vehicles is the only workable solution that I’ve seen anyone put forth for getting Joe six pack to go green. If Tesla can move the needle in terms of climate change, either directly or by spurring on the auto and solar industries, Musk will have earned a place with the heroes of humanity.
