If Your YouTube Account Isn’t ‘Commercially Viable’ Google Will Delete It

According to YouTube’s new terms of service, your YouTube account can be terminated if it isn’t commercially viable enough. The phrasing is broad enough that some people think this means Google will take action against people using adblockers.

YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.

I’m personally not sure if that’s the case. You don’t need a Google account to watch YouTube, nor does Google need you to have an account for it to track you.

  • Gotta disagree with assessment that you can view Youtube w/o Google account. There are MANY videos that you can’t view if you don’t have a Google account because I send links to videos to a bud that uses a PC in a public Sr. Center and he says they are blocked (with invite to sign up for acct.) a lot of times. These are regular dumb postings not special movies or anything. Also, regarding monetization I think someone is confused; in no place does the TOS say your signing up for a Google acct. is tied to monetizing it, period. Personally I don’t ever want to monetize anything on YT or Google (or ANY social) but what genius at Google would be so dumb as to want to lose eyeballs on their now ubiquitous ads all over the place? Better check your facts here. ⏚

  • Huh, Well I better back up all of the films on my YouTube channel. I get few hits, have less than a dozen followers, and have not earned a cent. It’s just films I make for fun. You know the idea behind YouTube. The reason it was created.
