Correction: PC Data Hits List In Error, Apple Not #5 Portable, iMac Fares Better
We spoke to Steven Baker, Director iof Hardware and Services Analysis for PC Data, about the March Hardware Hits List. The original Hits List for March sent out by PC Data is in error and unfortunately it seems that Apple did not actually hold the number 5 spot in the Portables category. Instead the PowerBook G3 233 MHz model was number 8. Mr. Baker told the Mac Observer that this was still a big increase for Apple though he could not give us specific numbers.

We also asked Mr. Baker about the iMac and the news is better there than we originally reported based upon the Hits List. If all 266 MHz candy colored iMacs were counted together, they would have held the number 4 spot. The item included in the number 4 spot, the Rev. B 233 MHz models actually takes the number 5 spot giving Apple two of the top 5. It is important to remember that this is NOT the way these things are counted and officially Apple keeps the number 4 spot with the iMac.
