Apple Stock Watch: Apple Surges In Early Morning Trading, Tops 57!
Apple's stock surged in early morning trading and topped 57 for the first time in more than 6 years. As of this writing, Apple was trading at 57 11/16, up 2 full points on fairly high volume of 1,272,600. Apple traded as high as 57 7/8 during the morning.

Apple's PC competitors are not faring quite so well and are trading mixed. Intel and Del are both trading down while Gateway 2000, Compaq, and Hewlett-Packard are all trading up.

The Dow and the Nasdaq are both trading in positive territory as well.

Apple's activity takes up where the stock left off on Friday when Apple closed up and PC companies closed down.

We will be following up on this story at Market close. For more of The Mac Observer's coverage on Apple's stock, check out our Apple Stock Watch Special Report.

The Mac Observer Spin: There is a difference between a day's trading range and a closing price, and there is still a long time left before the day is over. If Apple can hold on to some of these gains by closing time, it could mark a significant step toward continued gains.

Wall Street seems to be showing a lot of confidence in Apple.
