Insider Software Releases FontAgent 8
Insider Software has released a new version of FontAgent, bringing the font management utility to version 8. The new version includes a slew of new features. According to Insider Software:

Insider Software today announced the immediate availability of Insider FontAgent 8, a Macintosh font maintenance and repair utility that introduces a broad spectrum of new, powerful and unique capabilities to the market. FontAgent 8 replaces earlier versions of both FontAgent and Font Box.

Users can specify exactly how they want Insider FontAgent 8 to repair and reorganize their fonts. In addition to including all of FontAgent’s functionality, FontAgent 8 adds the ability to:

Modify only those fonts needing repair

  • Add fonts to an existing font library
  • Optionally keep fonts in their current suitcases rather than creating new suitcases for each family
  • Specify minimum point sizes to keep rather than keeping only the 12-point and smaller sizes
  • Optionally bypass conflicts in Font ID numbers
  • Organize fonts by the font creator's foundry
  • Quickly check only for corrupt fonts which cause font related crashes
  • Optionally skip fonts stored in the System Fonts folder
  • Keep incomplete font families which are missing one or more PostScript fonts
  • Display the complete path to duplicate and defective fonts
  • Create a "Problem Fonts" folder where defective fonts are placed and diagnosed clearly

While providing all these new choices and flexibility, FontAgent 8 continues the tradition of automatically recommending font repair actions to users.

Insider FontAgent 8 makes it easy for users to take advantage of all of its power by adding an all-new interface that makes it simple for users to specify how they want to optimize and organize their font files. Each predefined Setting has been designed to automatically set the recommended options for the most common configurations. FontAgent 8 also features a new help system that offers quick information and suggestions to help users analyze, repair and reorganize their font libraries. Users can also launch the new User's Guide with one click.

Another new feature lets users save the Settings of a FontAgent 8 session so they can just select the Setting later to perform the same font optimizations. After saving the specifications of a session, users drag and drop folders and disks to optimize and organize just the fonts contained in them.

Users can download FontAgent 8 immediately and analyze their font collections for free. To enable FontAgent 8 to repair, optimize, and reorganize their fonts, users must purchase a full license. The FontAgent Standard Edition costs $69.95 and manages the fonts on all hard disks on a single Macintosh. The Network Edition costs $169.95, and analyzes and synchronizes all the fonts in a Macintosh work group of up to 10 computers. The Limited Edition costs $29.95 and analyzes up to 250 fonts on a single Macintosh.

You can find more information on FontAgent 8 at the company's web site.
