The Myth World Cup '99 has reached a conclusion after 6 months of preparation and 3 months of actual play. The Myth World Cup '99 is a Myth II tournament hosted by The Mac Observer, and organized, built, and managed by Chris Butcher. With over 96 teams and over 500 people participating, this was a huge tournament. The final round came down to Civil Order and BMF, two of the finest Orders in all Mythdom. The round, of course, ended in a tiebreaker. According to the Myth World Cup:

In what was most definitely the longest, most enthralling, most amazingly close match in the entire Myth World Cup, the Challengers, Civil Order have defeated the Champions, BMF.

The seven-game Grand Final was a fiercely fought match... and then with Civil Order's victory, both teams had one loss on their record and so the match went into Sudden Death. Back and forth the battle raged, until finally in a game of Dead of Winter CTF Civil Order pulled off a frantic assault on the BMF flag as the BMF hordes closed in on their outmanned defense... managing to take the flag with only fractions of a second to spare. With two victories in a row, Civil Order take home the Myth World Cup. Full coverage of the match may be found here and are just dying for someone to review them.

And so, the Myth World Cup comes to a close. One last story update rounds off that section of our website; read about the climax of Alric's Cup in the shadow of the eclipse. I've also written a short wrap-up article of my own to conclude MWC99; you can read that here.

It has been a fun six months. Thank you all for participating, and good night.

Civil Order claims the number one prize package valued at over US$2,000. BMF also claims a great prize package. Head over to the Myth World Cup '99 home page and read more about the tournament!

The Mac Observer Spin: Wow! The Myth World Cup '99 was simply incredible. Easily the most organized, detailed, and fun Myth tournament ever, the Myth World Cup '99 also had the largest prize package of any Myth tournament to date. With Myth II having reached its ascendancy, it is likely that the Myth World Cup will remain the best Myth tournament ever.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants, and a big thank you to Butcher and his team for putting so much hard work into this event!
