MS Employee Talks About Ben Waldman
We talked to a developer that we have known and trusted for more than a year and a half about Ben Waldman, the general manager of Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit. Mr. Waldman has been quoted in the past as saying negative things about Apple in business and he also recently had trouble at the Japanese MacWorld Expo with his demo of the Japanese version of Internet Explorer 4.5. Our source, who works in the Macintosh Business Unit himself, though not directly under Mr. Waldman, requested anonymity. He told us that Mr. Waldman is in fact not only a great guy, he is a Mac nut. According to our source:

"Ben is a genuine Mac fanatic. He loves the Mac."

Our source had more to say, but that was the crux of his message.

The Mac Observer Spin: As one of the Mac news sites that criticized Mr. Waldman for saying the greatest feature of the Blue and White G3s was the reset button on the front, we officially apologize for the negative tones of those reports. It is far more likely that Mr. Waldman just panicked when his product demo crashed or that he simply didn't know what to say. It certainly was not the right thing to say at the time, but there was probably no malicious undertones based on what our source had to say. So we offer Mr. Waldman a big Mac Observer Salute for the great work his Unit has done on products like Office 98!
