XLR8 Announces A Trade-Up Program For G.X Upgrades
XLR8 has announced a new program for buyers who want to trade up to higher upgrades for their Macs. The program would allow users to get a discount by trading in their current XLR8 products for future ones. The company also has some other announcements regarding AltiVec and G4s. According to XLR8:

Effective immediately, XLR8 is implementing the "Performance Trade-Up Program." XLR8 product owners can Trade-Up to the fastest XLR8 product in their product class with
a trade-in discount of 20% off retail.

"Now users are truly assured of future compatibility and performance in their current systems," said Gary Dailey, Director of Marketing for XLR8. "The winner will be the loyal Mac user." For example, users can trade from a 233 MHz MACh Speed G3 to a 400 MHz MACh Speed G3, or from a 300 MHz MACh Carrier G3 to the future MACh Carrier. All with a Trade-Up discount of 20% off of retail. For users moving from one class to another (MACh Speed to MACh Carrier) the Trade-Up discount is 15%. All trade-in products must be fully working. High-Speed G3 CPU, MP, G4 & AltiVec™ Ready

XLR8 announced today that its new, upgradeable CarrierZIF™ and MACh Carrier™ are fully compatible with the future AltiVec Technology from Motorola, future "ultra" high-speed CPUs due from IBM as well as future multiprocessing CPU designs currently in development. The newest forthcoming version of XLR8’s industry leading software, MACh Speed G3 Control™, has been upgraded with new tools and full AltiVec compatibility as well – renamed XLR8 MACh Speed Control™ (v1.4.0).

AltiVec™ Software Compatibility

XLR8 has already designed AltiVec™ performance into its current release of XLR8 software utilities including PowerFrax (the default AltiVec benchmarking utility.) This graphical fractal generator application, originally designed by DayStar, now ships with all XLR8 performance products.

Using its proprietary software technology combined from current and past DayStar MP (multiprocessing) technology, XLR8 is developing full AltiVec™ performance enhancements for many applications and system performance bottlenecks. Tight integration with its own CPU upgrades ensures maximum XLR8 CPU performance.

These specialized enhancements will provide exponential performance gains for high-productivity applications when running on future PowerPC CPUs.

Availability

The release date and pricing is not yet defined. Since the XLR8 designs are 100% compatible, XLR8 is prepared to deliver simultaneously with the release of the faster CPUs from Motorola and IBM.

The Mac Observer Spin: This is an interesting approach being made by XLR8. It will be more interesting to see if other companies announce similar programs.
