Another Sign: MacHack Attracts Tech Firms Looking To Recruit Mac Programmers
The organizers of MacHack have announced they have attracted several tech firms who are looking to recruit Mac programmers at this year's MacHack. Good news, certainly, for many of the attending programmers, especially amongst attending students. According to MacHack:

MacHack: The Annual Conference For Leading Edge Developers has always been a gathering place for the best programming talent in the world. With this in mind, companies from across the spectrum of high tech firms have come to hobnob with cutting edge engineers and hopefully hire some.

1999 has seen record registrations for MacHack as well as a bumper crop of Macintosh oriented technology firms that are seeking to recruit new talent. These companies run the gamut from upstarts to old favorites of the Macintosh community. All share a common desire to recruit talent to produce quality code.

"It’s a no brainer," said Doug Shimonek, Application Development Manager at TeraGlobal Communications, an up-and-coming PowerPC based technology firm. "We need to hire a lot of talented engineers and to do that we are going where they go."

TeraGlobal Communications has also joined the ranks of conference sponsors, agreeing to pick up the tab for the tons of munchies in that are consumed routinely in the MacHack Snack Room. They have also agreed to sponsor the commemorative conference coffee mug. Art is available for viewing at the conference website.

There is still time for coders of all skill levels to join the activities at MacHack. Secure online registration is available at the conference website. A PDF is available of the fax/snail mail form for those interested in a more traditional registration.

The Mac Observer Spin: Part of our "Another Sign" series of reports, MacHack once again figures into our evidence that the Mac market is stronger than ever. While we have pointed out in the past that the amount of programmers attending events like MacHack and the WWDC is important, companies showing up in force to recruit at an event like this is even more so. This means these companies are growing and are looking to hire Mac programmers. It is expensive for most companies to attend events like this, so this also shows these companies are doing well financially. (the definition of doing well financially for tech firms, especially startups, can be slippery and relative, so don't take that farther than it was meant). In any event, congratulations to the folks at MacHack.
