Attracted by the well developed story and richly detailed game world, Steve Jackson Games has chosen Bungie Software's Myth titles for their first GURPS sourcebook based on a computer game. GURPS Myth will be produced by Steve Jackson Games under license from Bungie Software and is expected to be available this November.
The tabletop game industry preceded the computer game industry by decades. One of the legendary producers of these games is Steve Jackson, who developed and published such well-known series as Ogre, Car Wars, Illuminati and GURPS. GURPS, or Generic Universal Role-Playing System, is a system of rules that can be adapted for any role-playing universe, from cowboys to King Arthur, sci-fi to superheroes. For over fifteen years GURPS has been among the most popular and extensive role-playing franchises.
Bungie's games Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth II: Soulblighter, noted for their depth of story and the detailed world they describe, make especially good material for a role-playing sourcebook. From clarifying the ancient enmity between the Ghols and the Dwarves, to the origin of the Great Devoid, GURPS Myth will expand upon the many fascinating races, storylines and characters of Myth, and the possibilities of combining the best of tabletop and computer gaming.
Asked to elaborate on the license, Bungie CEO Alexander Seropian noted "It's great to work with Steve Jackson, and to open up the Myth world to a whole new class of gamers." Gene Seabolt, Chief Operations Officer for Steve Jackson Games was equally effusive about the partnership when he noted, "Myth is just plain the coolest."
