Roy Stocker, CEO of the Mactell Corporation, a leading manufacturer of performance enhancement and mass storage computer products, today announced at an annual Swiss reseller event that the company will be shipping a FireWire Digital Audio Tape storage solution in mid-July.
The FirePower FireDAT is an external DAT backup solution incorporating all the speed and versatility of IEEE 1394, or FireWire, technology. Fully swappable and extremely flexible, the FireDAT will utilize a 6GB tape that costs less than $15.00, making it an extremely cost-effective storage solution.
The FireDAT will ship bundled with the award-winning backup software, Retrospect 4.1, from Dantz Development as well as Desktape Pro 4.8, a desktop mounting utility which allows the tape drive to be mounted and used as a hard drive. Desktape Pro gives the user the ability to record, store, and play back from a single tape up to 2 hours of MPEG-2 video, 3 hours of DVD encoded video, 2 hours of MPEG-1 video, or 100 hours of MP3 music tracks.
Mactell is partnering with the Indigita Corporation to adapt the Indigita RaV6 to IEEE1394 (FireWire) technology. Both companies are in agreement that the FireDAT will be of great value to consumers requiring a more versatile and expansive storage solution.
The FireDAT will retail for $849.00 and will be available at MacWarehouse, ClubMac, MacMall, MacZone, Cyberian Outpost, and BottomLine Distribution, as well as other distributors and professional Resellers throughout the world.
The FireDAT unit is expected to retail for US$849 and will be sold through MacTell's resllers. The company expects to have the units in the channel by Mid-July.
