MacHack Kicks Off Today, Watch It Online
MacHack, the annual conference for Mac developers, is ready to kick off. MacHack has often been a part of our "Another Sign" series of reports because of the record turnout of participants, sponsors and other factors. The health of this event is a direct reflection of the resurgent Mac market and this year's event seems to celebrate that fact. According to MacHack:

After months of preparation, the MacHack planning committee is finally ready to reveal the fruits of their labors. Beginning tonight at 12:01 AM, MacHack 14 kicks off with a keynote speech by Andy Ihnatko, self proclaimed 42nd most popular industry personality.

After that the fun really begins. Software developers from around the world will launch into a frenzy of coding that last a mere 48 hours to prepare for the Best Hack contest. Sessions will begin on Thursday morning, providing more formal intellectual food to the voracious computer mavens.

Hack the Press

Numerous members of the press will be in attendance to witness MacHack in action. Some even participating. Adam Engst, best known for his Internet Starter Kits and TidBITS newsletter, will be presenting a press relations session to the developers.

More and More OS

OS issues of all kinds abound. OS X, OS 8.6, Palm OS. Developers will have plenty of meat to chew on during the sessions.

Watch MacHack Online

For the first time, MacHack will be featuring a live video feed from the conference floor to the internet. The conference web site will feature live images from the MAChine Room. The MAChine Room serves as the center of conference activities and is busy 24 hours a day.

While the online registration is closed, attendees are welcome to register on site. Conference management will be set up to handle most usual forms of payment during the conference.

MacHack, in its fourteenth year, remains centered around cutting edge software development. Each year the conference brings together well-known names in the software business, as well as many students and upstarts whose names we'll know soon enough, and fosters interaction between all of the attendees. MacHack's uniqueness derives from the informal feel and the LIVE coding that occurs around-the-clock during the conference.

MacHack 1999 will take place June 23-26 in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Mac Observer Spin: The Mac Observer wishes the MacHack participants and organizers the best of luck! Have fun!
