New Version Of Pagemaker Includes 2 Windows-Only Enhancements
Adobe has announced a new version of Pagemaker called Pagemaker 6.5 Plus. The new version, available for both Mac and Windows is a little short on enhancements for the Mac. According to Adobe:

"PageMaker 6.5 Plus includes:

  • A Template and Picture Palette (Windows only), which makes it easy for customers to browse, view and search PageMaker image and template files. Users can also catalog commonly used content and templates from other applications in a wide variety of industry-standard file formats.
  • 4,700 professionally-designed stock illustrations in Adobe Illustrator(R) format, hundreds of design templates and 300 high-resolution, CMYK photos to make pages come to life.
  • A Windows plug-in that creates a Microsoft Office-style, icon-based toolbar with shortcuts to commonly used PageMaker features.
  • A Microsoft(R) Publisher 97 and 98 file converter for Microsoft Publisher users migrating to PageMaker, that enables easy reuse of previously created materials.
  • The PageMaker 6.5 Plus Getting Started Guide, with design tips developed by well-known graphic design expert Robin Williams."

On the plus side (no pun intended), Pagemaker 6.5 Plus is being bundled with Photoshop 5.0 LE.

The new version is priced at US$499 with an upgrade offer for users of Microsoft Publisher 97 or 98 for US$299.

The Mac Observer Spin: Uhhhh...... 2 new features that are Window's only? We have had conversations with Adobe people in recent weeks who assured us that any impression that Adobe was down on the Mac was simply not the way it was, but from our perspective, this is a decidedly not a Mac friendly release.

Of course, this is not the case with Cyberstudio where Adobe is going to great lengths to take care of the installed Mac user base of Golive Cyberstudio users first.

It is a good thing to see Adobe targeting Microsoft customers too, but it would be nice if they had included the same feature improvements for the Mac release.
