Logitech Announces Future Support For Macs, Emphasizes Gaming Support
Logitech issued an official statement of ongoing support for the Mac and iMac starting with yesterday's announcement of Mac drivers for the WingMan Gaming Mouse. The announcement includes statements of support from Apple. According to Logitech:

Beginning with the innovative WingMan Gaming Mouse, scheduled to ship in May, Logitech will provide Macintosh support for many of its game devices. By taking advantage of today's powerful USB interface and the HID (Human Interface Devices) standard, the Logitech gaming products will be multi-platform compatible.

"We have a lot in common with Apple," said Fred Swan, director of marketing for Logitech's WingMan entertainment products. "One of the most important things we share is a strong commitment to offer an outstanding user experience by means of an interface that makes computing more natural and enjoyable. Apple's new iMac(tm) and G3 computers exemplify this commitment, and we're looking forward to supporting these systems with a variety of our products.

"The Macintosh has a large and dedicated user base that includes many computer gaming fans," continued Swan. "Now, with Apple's adoption of the USB standard, we can provide peripherals that support these users, improve their play, and add to their enjoyment."

"Our Power Macintosh G3 and iMacs have re-ignited customer and developer passion for the Macintosh platform," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of worldwide developer relations. "Logitech's excellent USB-savvy game products are coming onstream just as games software is flooding onto the Mac market. With developers like Logitech realizing the huge business opportunities out there on the Mac platform, millions of Macintosh fans around the world can look forward to playing the coolest games with the industry's best peripherals."

The Mac Observer Spin: Welcome to the Mac World Logitech! May you profit handsomely from your efforts! That said, we can now say "It sure took you long enough!"

But seriously folks, this is a major development for Mac users. Logitech is the largest manufacturer of computer input devices in the world. The power and promise of USB has once again made its presence known. Logitech also makes many devices specifically for the gaming market, more so than Mac stalwarts like Kensington who have long owned the third party Mac input device market.

More gaming devices makes for a better Mac gaming experience which will bring more Mac gamers which will bring more Mac game development which starts the whole process all over again and brings Apple more market share. We apologize for the run on sentence, but the point must be made. More cool Mac stuff will sell more Macs which is good for all of us.
