Universal Mac USB Driver Updated With New Features
Alessandro Levi Montalcini sent us a note telling us that he has updated his popular universal USB driver for the Mac. The new version, 1.1, has several brand new features that will make it a must-download for Mac users with USB equipped Macs and iMacs. According to Mr. Montalcini:

I just updated my USB Overdrive universal mouse and joystick driver for the Mac. The first version, released in March, was extremely successful and finally allowed all iMac and blue G3 users to take full advantage of all the cool USB mice, joysticks, gamepads and trackballs from the PC world. The new version fixes all known problems, supports more devices and adds a bunch of handy new features including the ones listed below.

New in version 1.1:

  • Added a cool Auto Scroll feature that doesn't require a mouse wheel to enable mouse-driven scrolling.
  • New application-specific mouse speed settings can override the Mouse control panel and speed up the cursor as much as you need.
  • Clicking a joystick or mouse button in the USB Overdrive control panel now selects the appropriate button in the device controls list, making it easier to properly map the joystick buttons.
  • Added or improved support for Logitech and Kensington wheel mice, CH Products and Saitek joysticks and gamepads, and the P.I. Engineering Ymouse adapter.
  • Automatic joystick calibration now handles all kinds of poorly calibrated devices.
  • Added support for two additional mouse buttons and an option to choose which button is assigned to the mouse wheel.
  • The Options menu now displays the list of captured devices and provides some basic information about them.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor problems.

USB Overdrive 1.1 is available for download at the USB Overdrive web site. The update is free to registered owners. The full version is priced at US$20.
