Studio 405 has rolled out a new version of their text cleaning utility called Text Cleaner. The new version, 1.6, contains performance improvements and some significant new features for Quark Xpress users as well as other enhancements. According to Studio 405:
Studio 405, Inc. announced the immediate availability of Text Cleaner 1.6, an upgrade to the popular text utility for the Macintosh. New features include the cleaning of QuarkXpress documents directly within QuarkXpress with Text Cleaner Xpress Link, a speed increase, improved cleaning sequences and the option to remove PC line feeds. The upgrade is free for all registered users.
Text Cleaner was designed to eliminate the need for common search-and-replace routines to prepare text for print or World-Wide Web publication. Correct typesetting marks and input error correction in handled in one pass and is compatible with any application that allows text manipulation.
Text Cleaner feature highlights:
Removes multiple spaces, returns and tabs
Creates curly or straight quotes
Corrects foot and inch measurement marks
Corrects apostrophes for year abbreviations
Creates or removes en and em dashes
Removes spaces before and after tabs, returns, hyphens and em dashes
Creates or removes ligatures and ellipses
Removes PC line feeds
Removes email quote symbols
Converts line breaks to wrapped text
Performs all cleaning operations in the best possible sequence
Works with copy and paste, text files, Xpress Tags files or directly within QuarkXpress

System requirements: Mac OS compatible computer with 4 megabytes of free hard disk space and operating system 7.0 or higher with 5,000k of free RAM. Mac OS 7.5 or higher is required for drag and drop cleaning and Text Cleaner Xpress Link. Text Cleaner is Mac OS 8.6 compatible and Y2K compliant.
