Apple Announces macOS High Sierra, Public Beta Late this Summer [UPDATE]

SAN JOSE – Apple’s Craig Federighi announced macOS (10.13) High Sierra during Monday’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote. The new operating system introduces Apple’s new File System—APFS, and brings significant improvements to Mail, Safari, Photos, and Metal 2. Apple will also be building in support for VR engines.

High Sierra is a technology refinement of Sierra. Notable features include an improved Safari

  • Improved Javascript, 80% faster than Chrome
  • Autoplay blocking
  • Intelligent tracking prevention

Notably, High Sierra will also support compressed Mail storage and Mail top hits,  HEVC (H.265) video playback, Metal 2, a new Siri voice (both male and female), and VR content creation.

TMO will have more details on macOS High Sierra in the coming days. As is Apple’s custom, High Sierra will be a free upgrade and will be available in the fall.
