Apple Tests Two Dynamic Island Designs for iPhone 18 Pro

Apple is still deciding how the Dynamic Island will look on the iPhone 18 Pro, and new leaks suggest the company is testing two different designs before locking in the final version, which shows that even at this stage, Apple has not finalized one of the most visible parts of the next iPhone.

According to new supply chain updates, Apple is running an A/B test where one version keeps the current design while another introduces a smaller Dynamic Island with some Face ID components moved under the display, which lines up with earlier reports but also explains why details have been inconsistent.

Two Dynamic Island options under testing

Digital Chat Station shared the latest update based on supply chain feedback.

“At present, the feedback of the supply chain is A/B Test, one screen mold remains unchanged, and one Mini Dynamic Island under the screen of Face ID RX area.”

This means Apple is testing a familiar design alongside a “Mini Dynamic Island,” and the final choice depends on how well the new setup performs and scales for production, especially since moving Face ID elements under the display adds complexity.

Earlier reports pointed to a Dynamic Island that is about 35% smaller, but this new update confirms Apple still considers reusing existing molds, which keeps costs lower and reduces manufacturing risks.

Rear design changes remain minimal

In a follow-up, Digital Chat Station said the rear camera layout will stay largely the same, with only small tweaks to materials and design details, which suggests Apple plans to refine the look rather than introduce another major redesign.

The iPhone 17 Pro already brought a noticeable design shift, so Apple now focuses on subtle updates like improved material consistency and new color options, which fit the pattern of iterative upgrades seen in recent iPhone cycles.

For now, the “Mini Dynamic Island” remains a possibility, but Apple has not made a final call, and that decision will define how different the iPhone 18 Pro feels compared to its predecessor.
