Apple is preparing the first major MacBook Pro redesign in years, set to arrive between late 2026 and early 2027. The upcoming model will feature an OLED display with touch support, a thinner body, and updated internals, marking the first significant shift since the 2021 redesign.
The current MacBook Pro lineup includes three models: a base 14-inch model with the M5 chip, high-end 14-inch models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, and a 16-inch variant powered by M4 Pro and M4 Max. Apart from performance differences, the designs remain largely the same, with the base model using a single fan and the higher-end models using dual fans.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans several Mac updates throughout next year. The company will introduce new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in the first half of 2026, alongside an M5 MacBook Air. Mid-year, the M5 and M5 Pro Mac mini will follow, joined by upgraded Mac Studio models with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips.
Base Models to Stay the Same for Now
Gurman added that Apple will launch a new entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip toward the end of 2026. However, this model is not expected to include the new OLED redesign. Instead, the upgraded design will be reserved for the M6 Pro and M6 Max versions, which will debut with a slimmer build, touch functionality, and higher-end display technology.
Apple’s move signals that the company intends to keep the existing design for the base MacBook Pro at least one more year. Customers looking for the new design will need to choose the higher-tier models once the M6 generation arrives.
In short, the MacBook Pro’s next big leap will begin with the OLED-equipped M6 Pro and M6 Max models, expected to define Apple’s professional laptop lineup from 2026 onward.
