Qualcomm’s Slow Demise

Global Times China reports that a Qualcomm lawyer said China’s rules of civil procedure could let the chipmaker ask a court to fine or detain Apple’s four lawyers, or even bar them from leaving the country.qualcomm logo

In a recent announcement Apple said,

Qualcomm’s campaign is a desperate attempt to distract from the real issues between our companies. Their tactics, in the courts and in their everyday business, are harming innovation and harming consumers.

Further, Qualcomm says that Apple isn’t taking the Chinese ruling as serious as the German injunction, even though the German injunction is hardware-related and the Chinese one is software-related.

Will companies want to do business with an aggressive company looking to jail Apple lawyers? Qualcomm might be shooting itself in the foot.

  • So Qualcomm might alienate customers with their “aggressive” tactics? That’s like saying you might alienate your neighbors if you used aggressive tactics with someone robbing your house!

If someone is stealing from me, you bet your britches I’m going to call them out. Anything less would invite everyone to take your stuff for free.
