‘The Studio’ and ‘Mr. Scorsese’ Earn Top Honors at the 78th Directors Guild Awards

Three Directors Guild Awards at the 78th DGA Ceremony

Apple TV recorded a strong night at the 78th Annual Directors Guild Awards, taking home three wins across comedy, documentary, and commercial categories. The ceremony took place in Beverly Hills on February 7, 2026, marking one of Apple’s most successful showings at the DGA Awards to date.

While Apple has a steady history of nominations, actual wins have been less frequent. That pattern shifted this year. With three trophies in one night, Apple doubled its previous total of DGA wins and strengthened its standing in top television categories.

Three Wins Across Key Categories

Apple secured awards across three fields, reflecting a broad creative reach rather than a single-genre strength.

  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for “The Oner” episode of The Studio
  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary Series or News: Rebecca Miller for the “All This Filming Isn’t Healthy” episode of Mr. Scorsese
  • Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials: Kim Gehrig for Apple’s “I’m Not Remarkable”

During the acceptance speech for the comedy award, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg paid tribute to Catherine O’Hara.

“Honestly, there’s no one we wish we could thank in person at this moment more than we would love to thank Catherine O’Hara,” Rogen said.

Goldberg followed with a personal note.

“We grew up in Canada, and she is and was quite literally our idol since we were children.”

A Notable Moment for Apple’s Awards Record

This ceremony stood out not only for the number of wins but also for their spread across categories. In previous years, Apple saw success mainly in advertising and children’s programming, with Lessons in Chemistry securing a drama win in 2024. This year’s results showed stronger recognition for both scripted comedy and documentary storytelling.

Kim Gehrig’s commercial win marked her third DGA victory, following earlier wins for Apple campaigns in 2022. Her continued success highlights Apple’s consistent performance in advertising direction.

Not every nomination ended in a win. Ben Stiller received a nomination for Severance in the dramatic series category but lost to Amanda Marsalis for “The Pitt.” Still, the overall outcome favored Apple.

Current Streaming Availability

Both The Studio and Mr. Scorsese are now streaming on Apple TV. The wins add to a growing list of accolades for Apple originals, reinforcing the platform’s position in major industry awards without relying on a single breakout title.

For Apple, this year’s Directors Guild Awards marked progress, not just participation.
