Apple September 7 media event

Apple’s “See you on the 7th” event is set to start at 10AM pacific time today, and The Mac Observer will be on location at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco to cover the day’s big announcements. CEO Tim Cook and other company executives are expected to take the stage to show off the successor to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and possibly the Apple Watch 2.

TMO’s Bryan Chaffin will be at the event for our as-it-happens coverage and hands on time with the new products. We’ll also bring you our usual analysis, and event wrap ups in our Daily Observations and Apple Context Machine podcasts.

It’s all but a sure thing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be unveiled, and we’ll find out when iOS 10 is officially launching. The new iPhone will sport an A10 processor, higher quality cameras, and may be available in more colors. Reports say it’ll be more waterproof than the iPhone 5s, and won’t include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Ditching the decades-old headphone jack is already controversial even though Apple hasn’t confirmed it’s gone. Assuming it is, wired headphones will connect to the Lightning port wither directly or through a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, or via Bluetooth.

Apple may include wireless EarPods with the new iPhones, although it’s more likely we’ll see wired Lightning connector versions in the box. A Lightning to 3.5mm adapter will be available as an accessory.

Apple may also unveil Apple Watch 2 with a thinner display surface and built-in Barometer and GPS.
