A Tumblr porn ban will go into effect December 17. The new policy follows the recent child pornography incident the platform suffered, and had its app banned from the App Store.

Starting December 17 Tumblr’s algorithms will start removing content that meet the following criteria: Any photo, video, or GIF that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.
Content that will be permitted include exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery. Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.
Tumblr admits that automated tools can run into problems and can make errors. Users will be able to appeal in situations where they think a mistake has been made. Explicit blogs can export content before the ban.
