Twitter Adds Support for Threads with ‘Add Another Tweet’ Button

Twitter announced Tuesday that it will add official support for Twitter threads, something users have been doing on their own for some time. The company said it will add a “Add another Tweet” button to its iOS and Android apps, and on Twitter.com. As with every other new feature, the company is bizarrely not bothering to add it its Mac client because [Twitter].

From Twitter:

We’ve made it easy to create a thread by adding a plus button in the composer, so you can connect your thoughts and publish your threaded Tweets all at the same time. You can continue adding more Tweets to your published thread at any time with the new ‘Add another Tweet’ button. Additionally, it’s now simpler to spot a thread – we’ve added an obvious ‘Show this thread’ label.

A Twitter thread is when someone posts a series of connected posts. Sometimes it will be a longer essay sometimes marked by numbers, like 1/10, and other times it might resemble more of a bullet list, with each tweet in the thread another bullet point. It’s been how Twitter users have dealt with longer topics. In addition to being able to see the originator’s sequential thread posts when viewing a thread, users can also see any responses from the rest of the Twitterverse.

In a blog post, Twitter’s Sasank Reddy acknowledged that users have been using threads on their own, and that this feature rollout simply makes it easier for people to do what they’re already doing.

The company didn’t offer a specific time frame for rolling out the new features, but did specify only iOS, Android, and Twitter.com.
