You Won’t Be Able to Watch Porn at Starbucks Anymore (Update)

You won’t be able to watch porn at Starbucks anymore. Back in 2016 the franchise promised to block porn, and now it’s following through.

Porn Filters

In its U.S. stores Starbucks will be implementing porn filters on its public Wi-Fi networks. Although watching porn has always been banned in the stores, until now Starbucks hasn’t done anything technological about it.

The shift comes thanks to pressure from anti-porn activist group Enough is Enough, which gathered 26,000 signatures in support of porn filtering. The group pointed out that Starbucks promised to begin filtering porn in 2016 but never followed through on that promise. “Apparently, Starbucks cares more about providing paper straws to protect the environment than protecting kids and patrons on its public WiFi,” the group wrote last week.

Update #1: In response, YouPorn will be banning Starbucks products from its offices.

Update #2: After reaching out to PornHub, they sent me some interesting news. PornHub is launching a new Safe For Work category. Corey Price, vice president at PornHub, said:

While we were aware some people’s preference in a sexual partner mimics that of their coffee, we were unaware that people were acting on such impulses when getting their caffeine fix. To comply with Starbucks’ new policy, we’ve created an option that allow fans to still enjoy great content to which they are accustomed, but that is appropriate for consumption in public places.

Less drastic than YouPorn’s response but interesting indeed. The category, which can be accessed at www.pornhub.com/sfw, features hundreds of videos with ranging topics, including adult entertainers sharing advice and experiences; compilation videos with attractive, yet clothed people; video game reviews and demonstrations; and more.
