Will wireless chargers demagnetize my credit cards?

The short answer is probably not. The longer answer is that wireless charging uses an electromagnetic field to power up your iPhone battery, and that could demagnetize the credit card stripe. Wireless charging manufacturers suggest you remove credit cards from your smartphone case before charging to be safe.

There doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem with wireless chargers demagnetizing credit card stripes, but it’s better to err on the side of caution and keep your cards away from your wireless charging pad.

Will wireless charging work when my iPhone is in a case?

Most iPhone cases won’t hamper wireless charging which makes the whole process much more convenient. Go ahead and leave your iPhone in its case when you use wireless charging.

Is Wireless Charging Slower than Wired Charging?

Wireless chargers aren’t as efficient as plugging a cable into your iPhone, so it’s slower to get you powered back up. If you need more power for your phone right now go with its wired charger instead.

Apple is going to make wired charging even faster with a software update soon. When that happens you’ll be able to get a 50% charge in just 30 minutes when using a USB-C charger.

Is Wireless Charging Hazardous to Your Health?

Several studies have shown that the electromagnetic field wireless chargers generate isn’t hazardous to humans. The chargers emit their EM field only when a device is on the charging pad, too.

As long as you’re using a quality charging pad you shouldn’t have to worry about any health concerns.

Which Apple Products Support Wireless Charging?

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X support Qi wireless charging, along with Apple Watch Series 3. Apple is going to release a wireless charging case for AirPods soon, too.

Which Wireless Chargers Can I Use with My iPhone?

Apple is using the Qi standard for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X wireless charging. Qi isn’t new so there are plenty of options out there. Apple’s own AirPower wireless charger will be available some time in 2018, but you can check out TMO’s list for a few chargers you can buy today.

  • I had been wanting a milanese loop Watch band and from what I understand that doesn’t unbuckle so much as loosen so that you can slip your hand through it. If that is true how will the watch charge, does the back need to be in contact with the charger?
