  • Why do you see this as an all or nothing proposition? Why not just include a pair of A12X processors in your MacBook as additional compute cores. Leaving X86 means loosing access to Window applications though bootcamp and parallels (or at least slowing the process greatly).

Apple incorporated it’s first ARM chips in the TouchBar MacBooks as a way to test the waters of how iOS Arm and MacOS x86 could co-exist. I look forward to a future where background tasks that busy up and slow down our systems can be handled by low power A series cores and higher performance A series cores can perform much of the core OS and speed up optimized apps, but at the same time still have the general purpose x86 for compatibility. The big question in my mind is can Apple pull off a laptop GPU that rivals what they are using currently from Intel or even AMD?
