  • I was delighted to start using a Macintosh because I was smitten with the Motorola 68000 series of CPU, so clearly superior to the Intel 80×86 line that had to maintain 8-bit backward compatibility.
We were slow to adopt the PowerPC until we got our PowerMac G4 dual-450 (Gigabit Ethernet). We bought the Mac OS X preview disc and, yes, complained that clicking that Apple logo at the top of the screen HAD to do SOMETHING.
We didn’t convert to Mac OS X until Jaguar (when Apple started promoting these releases by their code names – OS X 10.?) when I could be convinced Fontographer would run on it.
We used that PowerMac G4 as our daily driver for ten years!
My wife was FURIOUS with the transition to Intel. We were convinced the real reason there hadn’t been viruses on the Mac was that the viruses were expecting to run on Intel chips. She said she would Never get an Intel Mac!
She died before my sister brought me a secondhand first edition White Core Duo MacBook. It can only run up to Snow Leopard and doesn’t know anything about iCloud, but it can run Windows 10 and the latest Linux distributions!
High Sierra was the APFS Preview. The start disc didn’t run it but you could format external drives for testing.

Apple won’t release an iPhone without a Lightning Port until they release Air Power and we all know that’s never going to happen.

  • A port-free iPhone would pretty much kill off Apple CarPlay as very few cars support CarPlay as a wireless connection. Would definitely keep me from updating to a port-free iPhone.
