SteamVR Drops Support for Mac Customers

Steam announced today that SteamVR is dropping support for macOS so the team can focus on Windows and Linux.

We recommend that macOS users continue to opt into the SteamVR [macos]branches for access to legacy builds.

Users can opt into a branch by right-clicking on SteamVR in Steam, and selecting Properties… -> Betas.

SteamVR first came to the Mac in 2017 when Apple added support for external GPUs. They’re most likely reacting to a lack of interest on the part of users and a lack of commitment on Apple’s part.

· Andrew Orr · Link

One of Apple Arcade’s headlining games was stylish rhythm game Sayonara Wild Hearts. It also spread to other platforms like PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. And today it’s on Steam for Macs and PCs.

“As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly appears in her dreams and leads her through a highway in the sky, where she finds her other self: the masked biker called The Fool,” it says.

“Journey through a custom-written pop soundtrack, chase scores, and set out to find the harmony of the universe, hidden away in the hearts of Little Death and her star-crossed allies: Dancing Devils, Howling Moons, Stereo Lovers and Hermit 64.”

Check Out This Cool Cyperpunk Horror Game Coming to Mac [Trailer]

· Bryan Chaffin · Cool Stuff Found

There’s a cool new game coming to the Mac on October 24th called Observer. Above and beyond the obviously superior name, Observer looks great. It’s a cyberpunk horror game with a killer description. From Aspyr: “The year is 2084. You are Daniel Lazarski, an elite neural detective known as an Observer, whose purpose is to hack and invade suspects’ minds. To gather evidence, you must relive their darkest fears, and, finally, face your own.” Sign me up! The trailer looks terrific (some may find it dark). Pricing hasn’t yet been announced, but the game will be released on Steam for Mac and Linux, according to MacGamerHQ. Aspyr usually releases its Mac titles on the Mac App Store, too, but a MAS version hasn’t yet been specified.

2016's Game of the Year 'Hitman' Now Available for macOS

· Jim Tanous · Cool Stuff Found

2016’s Hitman was a fantastic sleeper hit, eventually rising to “Game of the Year” status. It’s an engaging combination of stealth, action, strategy, and even comedy but, until now, it was only available for PC and consoles. Thanks to the porting efforts of Feral Interactive, Hitman is now available for macOS, and it’s even on sale, too! Head over to Steam to check it out and download the free demo, but be sure to verify the game’s system requirements before you buy, as it currently supports only recent Macs with AMD graphics cards.

Sid Meier's Railroads for Mac Hits Steam Platform

· Bryan Chaffin · Cool Stuff Found

Feral Interactive announced this week that Sid Meier’s Railroads for Mac (originally Railroad Tycoon back in the day) is now available on Steam. This isn’t a new game—and it’s been available on the Mac App Store for years—but I love Railroads. Plus, a lot of Mac gamers are Steam users, so I’m mentioning it. Railroads was also updated on the Mac App Store. In addition to some unspecified bug fixes, the update removes support for Apple’s Game Center and Game Ranger. I’d love to see a new version of Railroads come out, but seeing Feral’s Steam announcement immediately got me playing the game again. It appeals to many of my inner nerds. It’s $17.99 on the MAS, but only $9.99 on Steam.
