Screenshots of Animus, one of the iOS RPG games.Animus tries to be different than other RPGs. It doesn’t fill the screen with numbers or “excessive effects.” Instead, it’s all about engaging combat. It has linear progression, four levels of difficulty, 24 main quests, 11 main boss fights, and it’s MFi controller compatible. And did I mention how great the graphics look? | Animus – US$7.99

Is there a law or UN mandate that forces developers to make all RPG and MMOs fantasy themed? I, for one, am fed up with magic elves.

I don’t play a lot of RPGs on iOS, but just to mention a few obvious examples on various platforms (ios/mac/pc/console/etc.):
mmo: Eve Online. Star Wars: The Old Republic. Metal Gear Online. DC Universe Online. Star Trek Online. Secret World Legends.
rpg: Fallout series. Shadowrun series. Borderlands series. Persona series. Marvel/X-men series. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. Pokémon series. Final Fantasy VII/VIII/XIII. Deus Ex series.

Of course in the tabletop realm there are literally hundreds of RPGs in every genre imaginable: sf, horror, western, post-apocalyptic, spy, adventure, superhero, contemporary, martial arts, historical, military, crime, film noir, romance, pirate, mythical, modern-day, steampunk, etc. as well as general-purpose systems (e.g. GURPS, FUDGE/FATE, etc.) that can be used for pretty much anything. Most genres can be found in software RPGs as well.
That being said, there is also a lot of fantasy because of the popularity of D&D, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Final Fantasy, etc..
