Apple Drops the Price of 20-inch G5 iMac

Apple still sells the G5 iMac next to the Intel iMac, and on Wednesday the company cut the price of the 20-inch version to US$1,499, a $200 drop. The 17-inch model is still $1,299, the same price as the 17-inch Intel iMac. MacCentral reported the news.

During its conference call with analysts earlier this month, Apple confirmed that it will sell the G5 version until supplies run out, but executives rebuffed a questioner who wondered why prices werenit cut, given the companyis emphasis on the better performance of the Intel model.

AppleInsider on Wednesday cited unnamed sources who said that the 17-inch G5 iMac continues to sell well enough to not warrant a price cut. Last week, the site confirmed that the 17-inch G5 iMac has been declared "end-of-life" and canit be ordered in large quantities anymore. They also noted that Amazon.com is offering $125 and $150 rebates on the 17- and 20-inch G5 iMacs.
