Apple Posts Fix For Software Update Erroneously Showing iTunes 3.0.1

Apple has added a new article to the Knowledge Base regarding the listing of iTunes 3.0.1 in Software Update when it is already installed. Appleis Knowledge Base (sometimes referred to as the KBase) is a central location for all of Appleis support documents and other important information.

If you have your preferred language set to anything other than English in the International preference pane, Software Update may suggest that you download iTunes 3.0.1, even though you already have it installed. The solution is to make sure you already have version 3.0.1 installed, then tell Software Update to ignore iTunes 3.0.1. From Apple:

Symptom

The iTunes (3.0.1) update appears in Software Update even though the installed version of iTunes is version 3.0.1.

Products affected

  • Mac OS X 10.2.3

Solution

  1. Make sure that the current installed version of iTunes is 3.0.1.
  2. Select the iTunes 3.0.1 update in the Software Update window.
  3. Choose Update > Make Inactive.

This will prevent the iTunes 3.0.1 update from appearing in the list of available software updates. You can make the hidden iTunes 3.0.1 update available again by choosing Update > Show Inactive Updates.

You can find the new Knowledge Base article at Appleis Web site.
