Apple Posts Fix For iSync Admin-Priviledges Problem

Apple has added a new article to the Knowledge Base regarding non-administrator users using iSync. Appleis Knowledge Base (sometimes referred to as the KBase) is a central location for all of Appleis support documents and other important information.

If you find that users lacking administrative priviledges can open iSync 1.0 but are unable to sync, the user may lack sufficient access to do so. The solution is below, as provided by Apple:

Symptom

Only users with administrator accounts can sync using iSync. Other users can open the application, but it does not sync.

Products affected

  • iSync 1.0
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Solution

  1. Log in as a user with an administrator account.
  2. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
  3. Choose View > Accounts.
  4. Select the affected user name and click Capabilities.
  5. Drag the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SyncServer into the list of allowed applications, or click the checkbox to deselect the "Use only these applications" option.

If you choose to keep a list of allowed applications, you should also drag these files into that list if the users may use mobile phones:

  • /System/Library/CoreServices/BluetoothUIServer
  • /System/Library/CoreServices/OBEXAgent

You can find the new Knowledge Base article at Appleis Web site.
