Apple Unclear on Xeon-Based Xserve Cluster Nodes

While Apple is definitely retiring its line of Xserve cluster node computers that use G5 processors, it wonit confirm or deny plans to release cluster nodes based on the new Xserves that use Intel Xeon processors. CNET originally said that the company would indeed be doing so, based on statements made on Wednesday at LinuxWorld, but it has corrected its original report.

The Xserve cluster node is a stripped down version of the server thatis designed to be networked with other nodes for high-performance computing, including the creation of supercomputers. As of Thursday, Appleis Web site still featured the G5 version of the cluster node, while the main Xserve page focused on the new Xeon-based edition, which is shipping in October.
