MacPlay has announced today that Balduris Gate 2 will be coming to not only Classic Mac but to Mac OS X! The company will be shipping the Carbonized app in August, just a few short weeks away. Balduris Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the hugely successful sequel (on the Dark Side) of the hugely successful Balduris Gate franchise. Balduris Gate II allows players to achieve higher levels for their characters and introduces a host of new spells, magical items, abilities, and other new features. From MacPlay:

MacPlay announced today that it has committed to publishing the Macintosh version of Balduris Gate II: Shadows of Amn for Mac OS X, Appleis next generation operating system, and Mac OS 9. The game, published under license from Interplay Entertainment Corp. is based on the best-selling Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game from Wizards of the Coast. Balduris Gate II: Shadows of Amn will ship in August 2001 and will be fully compatible with both operating systems.

Balduris Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the latest chapter in the mythic saga that continues the much-loved Balduris Gate storyline. The Forgotten Realms® adventure ensues along the southern portion of the Sword Coast in the merchant kingdom of Amn. This region includes such diverse environments as the Elven forests of Tethyr, the Cloudpeak Mountains, the Drow cities of the Underdark, and the Capital City of Amn, Athkatla.

Developed by BioWare, the same team responsible for Balduris Gate, and converted to the Macintosh by MumboJumbo, Balduris Gate II features an incredibly detailed design and story with a highly engrossing plot showcasing immersive environments and dynamic characters that will thrill and engage players throughout the span of the game.

"MacPlay is proud to publish its flagship summer release, Balduris Gate II: Shadows of Amn, for Mac OS X," said MacPlay President Diane Zammit. "We are dedicated to technological leadership in Macintosh gaming by supporting Appleis next generation operating system."

"With incredible power and stunning 2-D and 3-D graphics capabilities built-in, Mac OS X is an ideal platform for casual and hard-core gamers alike," said Ron Okamoto, Appleis vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Weire pleased with MacPlayis strong dedication to the Mac and are excited to see this and other award-winning titles from MacPlay coming to Mac OS X."

MacPlayis Web site is still in a state of flux, but The Mac Observer has been told that it may be turned into something functional this week. At that point you will be able to find more information on Balduris Gate II at that Web site.
