Canto Moves Enterprise-Level Asset Management Solution To Mac OS X

At next weekis Seybold conference, Canto will be announcing a major new product for Mac OS X. The company will be releasing Cumulus Enterprise Edition for the Mac for the first time. Cumulus is a media asset management system, and the Enterprise edition of this product means that Mac publishing houses can run an all-Mac network. From Canto:

Next week at Seybold San Francisco, Canto announced that its flagship product–the Enterprise Version of its Media Asset Management Solution Cumulus–is now shipping for Mac OS X. This is the first time that Canto has released its Enterprise Version of Cumulus 5 for the Mac. While the Client Applications can be used problem-free in the Mac OS X Classic Mode, the newly implemented Server Application is especially optimized for UNIX based Mac OS X and takes full advantage of all its BSD Kernel benefits.

The Cumulus Enterprise Edition had previously been available for Windows, Linux, Solaris, and IRIX and has been successfully installed by large international corporations. The Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers both the features of the Workgroup Edition as well as special features that large international corporations require. For example, the Cumulus Enterprise Edition offers AXR cross-referencing features and Oracle SQL connectivity—all at an unbelievably attractive price for this quality of product.

The Cumulus 5 Enterprise Edition is based on the recently released version 5.0.10. The Cumulus 5 Enterprise Edition together with the Options create a perfect solution in prepress, corporate communications and web environments. And now in combination with Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server, the Cumulus 5 Enterprise solution offers high-performance and reliability while still being easy to use.

Key User Benefits of the Enterprise Edition

  • Automatic detection of usage and cross-references of assets (AXR). For example, the Enterprise Edition will detect links and placed assets in compound documents. It offers functionality to easily maneuver between such related assets, as well as the ability to easily update assets that include others which have been altered.
  • User and Group Privileges that allow specific user or group access to specific categories and records. For example, asset access and viewing for the sales staff can be limited to final, approved material while the marketing department also has access to all work in progress.
  • Includes the Cumulus Internet Client Option. Building on the success of the Web Publisher Option, the Enterprise Edition will allow changing of record and category fields, as well as Check-In and Check-Out functionality via the Internet. Extended transaction-based server-side automation. The Enterprise Edition offers an additional API, allowing a centrally customized solution to fit specific workflow needs.
  • Extended Database connectivity. The Enterprise Edition offers an API to access industrial strengths databases at optimal performance in order to store metadata and/or assets.
