Controversial Jobs Bio to Hit Streets May 16

An unauthorized biography of Apple Computer co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs will be released by its publisher May 16, a published report said Friday.

Wired news reports publisher John Wiley & Sons has decided to move up the release date of the controversial book by ? by a month and double the print run, after word that Mr. Jobs was not pleased about the bio and pulled all books by the publisher from its retail stores in retaliation, as first reported by The Mac Observer on April 26.

At issue is an unauthorized biography of Steve Jobs titled iCon Steve Jobs: The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business (US$16.47 - Amazon), (see front cover design below) written by Jeffrey Young and William Simon.

This is Mr. Youngis second Steve Jobs biography, the first of which, The Journey is the Reward ($14.78 - Amazon) was published in 1987 and covered Steve Jobsi ascent at Apple. The updated biography reflects the turnaround of Apple, the success of the iPod digital media device, and the success of Jobsi Pixar Animation Studios, where he is also CEO.

Mr. Jobs and Appleis public relations department have refused to explain why they object to the book. Mr. Young recently told the Reuters news agency, "my understanding is that Wiley requested or asked if there were any factual changes to be made in the book or errors and thatis when they (Apple) said the only thing satisfying to (them) would be not to publish the book."
