DEVONtech Releases Freeware ServicePack 1 Tool Kit

DEVONtechnologies has released ServicePack 1 for Mac users. ServicePack 1 is a bundled tool kit designed for cross-platform compatibility of Cocoa apps. Included in the kit are AntiWordService, CalcService, and WordService. According to DEVONtechnologies:

DEVONtechnologies introduces ServicePack 1, consisting of three top-rated freeware tools: AntiWordService 1.0, CalcService 2.6 and WordService 2.3.

AntiWordService 1.0, introduced on the 11th of May, 2002, enables all well-behaved Cocoa applications able to read plain text, for example TextEdit or DEVONthink Personal Edition, to open Microsoft Word documents. The actual conversion is done by the command line utility "antiword", hence the name. Up to now, only plain text is preserved, no images and no formatting. DEVONthink Personal Edition users may for example use it to import Word files into their knowledge base.

CalcService and WordService insert new commands into the Services submenu allowing to make simple calculations and reformat text within any Cocoa application, for example TextEdit, Mail, ProjectBuilder, OmniWeb or DEVONthink Personal Edition.

CalcService replaces a selected formula by the result of the calculation sending Calculator.app into retirement, and WordService provides a variety of 30 functions for converting, formatting, sorting or speaking text, inserting the current date, time or folder contents, and showing statistics about selected text.

You can find more information about the ServicePack 1 release at the DEVONtechnologies Web site. ServicePack 1 is available as freeware.
